Open Sewerage System; Kharian Cantt
The Bacta-Pur® Difference

Before Treatment (28 Oct 2008)
After 2 Weeks of Treatment (11 Nov 2008)

A 112-home community in Kharian Cantt was faced with severe problems of organic build-ups, scum, and foul odors in its sewerage system. The waste water from the homes is collected via small, open drains and thrown into a larger channel. The latter flows parallel to the western periphery of the colony and eventually flows into another drain. The system is typical of Pakistan’s residential sewerage.

  1. International Water Associates Pakistan was asked to put its technology to work for resolving this situation. The weekly treatment was started on 28 October 2008 by administering the relevant Bacta-Pur® products in appropriate doses through the inlets in homes. It’s being continued. At the end of 2nd week, a stunning reduction in organic deposits, as seen in the above picture, and foul odors was observed. The water transparency had essentially been achieved reflecting a much higher water quality. The residents joyously remarked that the odors inside the homes and across the colony had diminished to negligible levels. It’s worth mentioning that the project site is under suboptimal weather conditions during the period. It would work even better in warmer temperatures. No chemicals have been administered during the project.
  1. This is one of the numerous open sewerage projects that showcases the promise of Bacta-Pur® to enhance the environment and quality of life in Pakistan.
