The DHA EME Sector Lahore is an upscale residential society on Multan Road. The society has to resort to pond its sewerage water on empty plots in the society due to absence of a sewer carriage beyond its limits. The sewerage water so disposed in Sector was thick black (in the left picture) and emitted severe ammonia odors, estimated at 100 on a scale of 0-100 by the officials, making lives of residents miserable. International Water Associates Pakistan was asked to address this situation with Bacta-Pur® biotechnology products (ECOPROBIOTICSTM).

The treatment was started in January 2009 with a combination of appropriate Bacta-Pur® products at farthest upstream points leading to the outfall. After first week, the black water turned brown (in the middle picture above) and the odor levels came down to 50 on a scale of 0-100. After the second week, the water turned almost transparent (in the right picture above) and the odor levels slided to the negligible level of 20 on a scale of 0-100. The treatment is ongoing with the latter results being maintained.
